When help is needed? • Feeling trapped or worrying all the time • Feelings that affect sleep, eating habits, schoolwork or relationships. • Becoming involved with alcohol or other drugs. • Becoming increasingly aggressive, violent, or reckless.
Seeking Help • Asking for help is a sign of inner strength. • Serious disorders, compulsions, and addictions are complex and require professional intervention. • Sharing your thoughts with an objective person can be helpful. • Financial help to pay for care may be available.
Where to go for help? • Counselor – Mrs. Eisenhard and Mrs. Bemmes • School Psychologist – Mrs. Hils • Teachers – Dr. Nagelhout • Psychiatrist – Can prescribe medications. • Neurologist – Physical disorders of brain and nervous system. • Social Worker
Treatment Methods • Psycotherapy – an ongoing dialogue between a patient and a mental health professional. • Behavior Therapy – a treatment process that focuses on changing unwanted behaviors through rewards and reinforcements.
Treatment Methods • Cognitive Therapy – designed to identify and correct distorted thinking patterns that can lead to feelings and behaviors than can be destructive. • Family Therapy – helping the family function in more positive and constructive ways by exploring patterns in communication and providing support and education.
