  1. Walk & Talk Be Responsible In the Hallways & In Transition

  2. Skill & Critical Rules Today we are going to discuss a critical school-wide behavior known as WALK & TALK Transition times need to be quick, so there is no time to waste. Always have consideration for others in class & those attempting to get to class.

  3. WALK & TALK When we say WALK & TALK, this is what is expected: • Continuous movement to destination • Voice volume at a level 1 or less • Small groups of students (3-4) side by side (only 2 next to each other) • Face in the direction you are walking • No running and stay to the right of the hallway • Can you think of others? (DISCUSSION)

  4. Continuous Movement to Destination • Don’t stop in the middle of the hall and talk to friends, this causes others to not be able to get to their classes on time • Walk on the right side of the hallway talking side by side with one friend • Your continuous movement to your destination will enable you to arrive on class on time!!!

  5. Voice Volume LEVEL 0 – No Talking LEVEL 1 – Whisper (Speakers are side by side) LEVEL 2 – Low Tones (Speakers are within 2 feet) In the hallways remember to always use a Voice Volume of Level 1

  6. Walk Side by Side BE RESPECTFUL! • When with a group of friends (3 or more) always walk side by side (by two’s) • Walking two by two clogs up the hallways and doesn’t allow others an opportunity to transition to where they need to go on time

  7. Face Direction You Walk BE SAFE! • Always walk the directions you are going. • If your back is turned it is possible to run into someone

  8. No Running at Any Time • Running in the hallway can lead to someone being hurt. • Remember the critical school-wide skill to use in the hallway is to always Walk • A teacher may ask you, “what you are doing” and ask you to demonstrate the appropriate skill

  9. SKILL PRACTICE Skill Practice is an opportunity for students to demonstrate they understand the critical school-wide behavior of WALK & TALK. Have students skill practice ONLY the positive examples – students should explain if each one is an example of WALK & TALK, and why – what expectations are not being followed.

  10. SKILL PRACTICE #1 You meet your friends in the middle of the stairway, stand in a circle and talk, then give everyone a hug and run to class What expectations are or are not being followed? Choose a few students to demonstrate how to effectively follow the critical school-wide rule of WALK & TALK in this example.

  11. SKILL PRACTICE #2 A group of girls have their lockers next to each other. During transition time, one girl has some juicy gossip to tell everyone else. After they get their books, the friends want to hear the gossip, but the girl says, “No, we need to get to class now. I will tell you as we walk down the hall. What expectations are or are not being followed? Choose a few students to demonstrate how to effectively follow the critical school-wide rule of WALK & TALK in this example.

  12. SKILL PRACTICE #3 A group of boys have been playing around in the halls when a group of girls walk by, the boys start yelling and grabbing their shoulders. One girl starts to run to get away, and the whole group takes off running down the hall, bumping into anyone in their way. What expectations are or are not being followed? Choose a few students to demonstrate how to effectively follow the critical school-wide rule of WALK & TALK in this example.

  13. SKILL PRACTICE #4 After class, you meet your friends in the hall, stand in a circle, and talk to each other in a voice volume 1. What expectations are or are not being followed? Choose a few students to demonstrate how to effectively follow the critical school-wide rule of WALK & TALK in this example.

  14. SKILL PRACTICE #5 Your best friend is at his/her locker and you pass by on the way to lunch. You continue walking slowly down the hall until they finish what they are doing and catch up to you so you can eat lunch together. What expectations are or are not being followed? 15. SKILL PRACTICE #6 You ask your teacher if you may use the restroom during 3rd Block. When you enter the hallway you see your friend out in the hall doing work for another class and go talk to him/her. After talking to them you walk slowly down the hallway first stopping into the office to talk to another friend .
