General Information • Dates: June 29-July 31, 2014 • Price Around: $4,220 (without airfare), plus $150.00 application fee • Price includes: • Room and board in Paris (access to kitchen and campus cafeteria) • Metro/Bus Pass • Day-long excursion to Josephine Baker Estate and other scheduled group activities • Airport-Hotel bus transfers for students flying with the group • Comprehensive medical insurance Omaha Beach, June 2010
Courses Taught Use Paris as your classroom and earn up to 7 Credit Hours by taking one or two courses. All credits are transferred through UK. No tuition fees are applied to the cost of the program. • Paris NoireAfrican-American Artists/Writers—3 credit hrs • ISP 599 – Language Survival -1 credit hour • Independent Study in AfAm Studies or English–3 credit hrs This program explores the impact of African American arts, letters, and culture on Paris, France. Through a series of tours of African American locations in Paris, guest lectures, and traditional classroom activities, e.g. viewing films, reading literature, and class discussions, students will gain valuable knowledge about the past and present influence of black life on/in Paris, France.
Paris Program Highlights Highlights • Attend and participate in guest lectures by contemporary African American Parisian writers • Tour notable sites connected to African American artistic and cultural production • Develop a global and cross-cultural understanding of African American art, culture, people Faculty: VershawnYoung (UK), African American Studies and English
Schedule All classes meet three times a week: • Two 2-hour classes • One 4-hour excursion • Class excursions are open to all participants with the consent of the instructor Three-day weekends to travel or to enjoy Paris
