  2. Colossians 1:16.... “For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible... everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.” (The Message)

  3. INTRODUCTION What are these "5 PURPOSES" of the Church of Jesus Christ on this earth?

  4. MAIN POINTS 1. To Love God With All Your Heart

  5. Matthew 22:37.... “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (NIV) The Church was planned for God’s pleasure, so our “PURPOSE” is to “LOVE GOD” through “Worship.”

  6. Matthew 4:10.... “Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (NIV) WORSHIP!

  7. 2. To Love Your Neighbor As Yourself

  8. Ephesians 2:10.... “For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV) What are these "good works" that Paul is talking about?

  9. 2 Timothy 1:9; cf. Ephesians 4:12 You’re not saved by service, but you are saved for service. MINISTRY!

  10. 3. To Go And Make Disciples

  11. Matthew 28:19,20.... “ (v.19) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (v.20) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)

  12. Your ministry is your service to believers, & your “MISSION” is your service to unbelievers.

  13. John 17:18.... “In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.” (Message Bible) Ezekiel 3:18 EVANGELISM!

  14. 4. To Baptize Them Into One Body

  15. 1 Corinthians 12:13.... “For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” (NIV)

  16. When we place our faith in Christ, God becomes our Father, we become His children, other believers become our brothers and sisters, and the church becomes our SPIRITUAL FAMILY!

  17. Galatians 3:26.... “You are all sons (children) of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (NIV) FELLOWSHIP!

  18. 5. To Teach Them To Do All Things

  19. Colossians 1:28.... “We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.” (NIV) This is yours & my DESTINY!

  20. In Christ we are not fully perfected yet – but rather still growing & transforming into the image & likeness of Christ daily.

  21. Ephesians 4:22-24…. 3 Responsibilities in becoming like Christ We must choose to let go of old ways of acting(verse 22). 1) We must change the way we think(v.33; cf. Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18). 2)

  22. 3) We must put-on the character of Christ by developing new, Godly habits(verse 24). DISCIPLESHIP!

  23. CONCLUSION A great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will make you and I a strong and growing Christian and church.

  24. 5 PURPOSES of the church as God's Family. • To love God with all • your heart. • To love your neighbor as • yourself. • To go and make disciples. • To baptize them into one body. • To teach them to do all things.
