  1. Work ExperiencePresentation to Parents Work Experience Team Colinda Brown Work Experience Manager Teresa Price Senior Work Experience Coordinator Elly Pharoah Work Experience Coordinator Vibeke Gardiner Work Experience Coordinator

  2. What is BEP Group? • Previously known as Havering and Redbridge BEP • Came together in May 2011 and changed name to BEP Group • Act as a broker (link) between Business and Education • OUR MISSION To develop and enhance the skills and potential of the local business community and their future workforce through structured education, training and enterprise initiatives

  3. What is Work Experience? • An unpaid opportunity for young people to experience working life whilst they are still at school • A chance for students to develop and practice new skills and become more confident in your abilities • Can be non – vocational : it’s an experience of work!

  4. PlacementsThere are 2 ways in which students can be placed: Own Placements • Source their own as they are more likely to get exactly what they want • Placements can be anywhere in the country • The employer must have Employer Liability Insurance (ELI) • Pass a Health & Safety check carried out by an approved Health and Safety Officer • All forms must be fully completed and signed by the employer and yourselves as their parent, guardian or carer

  5. Placements Online Selections • Students must provide selections (even if they are finding their own placement) • We will aim to ensure all students are allocated a placement – where possible this will be from the choices made online • Students are usually placed anywhere within the London Borough of Havering or Redbridge (based on their selections online) • Relevant medical and special needs information should be listed on the Initial Consent Form • It is essential that you check and approve the choices made

  6. Webview(Online Work Experience System) Getting Started • To access the site students must go to www.bepgroup.net and click on : • Students will be issued with a pin number on the ‘getting started’ information sheet • The students are to follow these steps to log on to the system

  7. Webview cont. Student home page • When students have successfully logged in they will be directed to the student home page where they’re able to tick if they are thinking of finding their own placement

  8. Making Selections

  9. Webview cont. • Student must put their choices in order of preference

  10. Webview cont. • Provide information on what areas they can travel to and their method of travel

  11. Webview cont. • Once they have finished making their selections they will directed to the Own Placement screen. This is where they can enter the details of their placement and print off the form to be signed by the employer

  12. Pre Placement Provisional Job Description (Yellow) • A provisional job description will be issued to the student approximately 10 weeks before their work experience is due to commence • Students will then have 1 week to raise any concerns they may have with the school coordinator • If they refuse a placement, they must have a good reason to do so • BEP Group will endeavour to meet the students needs by offering an alternative placement if one is available

  13. Webview cont. Once students have been placed the system allows them to : • See the employer details, job description and health and safety information • Plan their journey to work and see a location map for their work experience placement

  14. Deadlines • Work Experience is normally a 6 month process from start (student briefing) to finish (first day of placement) and all parties involved have critical dates to adhere to. • All choices need to be made and own placements found by the dates shown on the online system • All forms must be given to the school coordinator by the deadline given • Forms will not be accepted after these dates

  15. Agreement Form (Blue) • Students will receive the ‘blue’ form approximately 6 weeks prior to their placement commencing • This needs to be signed by you as their parent, guardian or carer and employer to indicate the job description and risk assessment has been read and understood • The ‘blue’ form must be returned to the school before the placement can start

  16. Interview • On receipt of the ‘blue’ form students must contact the employer to arrange an interview. • Employers will expect the student to arrange the interview and attend by themselves. • This is an important part of the Work Experience Process, however if they have found their own placement, employers may not require a further interview or meeting prior to placement. • In many cases – no interview, no work experience!!!

  17. During the Placement • Whilst on placement students will be treated as an employee by the company. • Employers must be contacted if they are ill, running late or attending an appointment. • They will be expected to work business hours. This is anything up to a maximum of 40 hours per week! • BEP Group will be advised if they do not attend placement and in turn will contact the school to find out where they are.

  18. After the Placement Student Evaluation • On completion of Work Experience evaluation forms are sent to both the students and employers. • Feedback from employers is passed onto the school. • Students will be issued with a certificate on return of their feedback form to BEP Group. • No evaluation form completed – no certificate!!!

  19. Feedback Employer Feedback • ‘Sam is a credit to his school. We have employed him as a weekend worker’ • ‘Fantastic student! He made a great impression on my team. He had a very positive attitude and was very customer focused.’ Student Feedback • ‘I always thought I would be cutting hair on my work experience in a hairdressers, but instead all they got me doing was folding towels, making tea and sweeping the floor. That’s too much hard work.’ • ‘I gained confidence, but best of all I knew they trusted me and had belief in me and the work I did for them.’
