Transport & Mobility • Transport is key for the economy, especially for the manufacturing industries • Mobility of workers and citizens is the entry-door for employment and social integration • For our sectors: it is the employer of 15m workers in Europe • But it is also: a source of varied pollution and an important consumer of energy

  4. Our view of future mobility Transport and mobility… • are not goals inthemselves, but must serve the needs of societies and populations; • are a powerful means of social integration for the whole of society; • should respect the environmental needs of our societies (today and tomorrow)

  5. Manufacturing workers’ view • A Mobility Revolution is: • a challenge, mainly for employment, working conditions and skills; • an opportunity, to develop a sustainable manufacturing base in Europe, and find new markets

  6. A Challenge… • A change in transport and mobility policies will bring: • manufacturing job losses • a transformation of jobs and job transfers • new skill requirements for workers already in place and for new young colleagues • Therefore a demand for appropriate T&E policies, retraining efforts, and anticipatory measures with the social partners

  7. An opportunity… • A reoriented product policy from the transport equipment manufacturers will: • Open up new, domestic markets • Create quality jobs • Support the development of new supply-chains • Make transport sustainable • Contribute to overcoming the crisis
