The Biblical & Scientific Foundations for Creation When addressing the topic of Creation & Evolution the typical approach taken is to attack and disprove the opposing theory of evolution We will instead spend our time looking at the case for Biblical Creation, and seeing how what the Bible tells us about the origin of the universe and life make sense of the scientific observation that we make today

Genesis 1:1 “In the BeginningGod Created the heaven and the earth” The Bible says the universe (Time, Space, and Matter) had a beginning The Bible also says the universe is finite in size Psalm 147:4: “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.” For a long time cosmologists believed the universe was eternal and infinite in size! They were wrong.

3. According to the Bible God created everything in six days • Exodus 20:11  • “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is”

4. The Bible says God created everything in six days Based on this framework you would expect several things: Symbiotic relations between living organisms Termites and their belly friends Flowering plants and insects

5. If God created and sustains life we would expect creatures to have instinctive, non-physical abilities given to them by God. Colossians 1:17: “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” Let’s look at some of these instinctive, non-physical abilities that God has given different creatures… Bird Migration from one area of the world to another area is one example of such instinctive abilities

7. The great complexity of life can be explained by the omniscient, omnipotent God of the Bible

What we would then see would be an object of unparalleled complexity and adaptive design. On the surface of the cell we would see millions of openings, like the port holes of a vast space ship, opening and closing to allow a continual stream of materials to flow in and out. 9. If organisms are created whole as seen in Genesis, you would expect complex irreducible systems within those organisms

10. The Bible says the creation was recent

According to the Bible the creation is recent Based on this we would expect certain indicators that the earth is young Earth’s magnetic field is one such indicator The magnetic field is dying, the rate of decrease is about 5% per hundred years. “it was calculated that the current could not have been decaying more than 10,000 years; otherwise its starting strength would have been sufficient to melt the earth. Thus, the earth must be less than 10,000 years old.” Dr. Andrew A. Snelling (Ph.D Geology)Earths Catastrophic past – Volume 2 – Page:873

12. Based on the Biblical account of a recent creation we would expect C-14 levels to be detectable in “ancient” carbon deposits and objects Carbon-14 (which is used for Carbon Dating) get’s into all Carbon based life forms through photosynthesis When a Carbon life form dies, it stops taking in C-14 from the atmosphere, and what is there already starts to decay away After 150,000 years, there should be no more Carbon-14 detectable in whatever has died

When we look at “ancient” formations formed by Carbon life forms like coal beds (supposed to be hundreds of millions of years old) we find large levels of Carbon-14 in them Other Carbon based objects supposed to be billions of years old (like diamonds) also show C-14! Just as the Bible would predict

If the creation of all animal life is recent, we would expect to find evidence that dinosaurs lived in the recent past (not millions of years ago) And we have found that evidence: Soft tissue has been found in dinosaur bones! Soft tissue can only survive for about 10,000 years without decaying away!

15. Here are some actual examples of soft tissue that has been found in dinosaur remains Not only soft-tissue has been found, but also C-14 inside some dinosaur remains, showing again that it cannot be millions of years old

The Bible teaches there was a flood that completely destroyed the world about 4400 years ago Genesis 6:5-8: “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

17. Genesis 7:11  ”In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” If this is true you would expect ancient cultures to have legends of this world wide catastrophe There are over 250 ancient cultures who have flood legends from all around the world!

18. What do these stories have in common Is there a favored family? 88% Were they forewarned? 66% Is flood due to wickedness of man? 66% Is catastrophe only a flood? 95% Was flood global? 95% Is survival due to a boat? 70% Were animals also saved? 67% Were birds sent out? 35% Let’s look at a few specific examples…

22. If there was a worldwide flood you would expect certain geologic features present on earth Poly-strate fossils Fossils crossing two or more sedimentary layers (strata) are called poly- (many) strate (strata) fossils.

23. We can see how Poly-Strate fossils can form quick from modern day observations

27. If there was a worldwide flood you would expect marine fossils to be in unusual places… Mt. Everest… Clams… What are clams doing on the top of Mt. Everest?

28. If the catastrophic flood of the Bible happened, you would expect fossils that show signs of rapid burial One fish eating another fish A fossil of one fish giving birth to another fish This is what we’d expect with a catastrophic flood

29. Is there was a world-wide flood you’d expect evidence of massive geologic layers being formed underwater That’s exactly what we find Coconino Sandstone The sandstone is estimated to cover an area of about 200,000 square miles, with an average thickness of 315 feet.

30. Originally it was thought to be a desert (like the Sahara) and was used as evidence against the flood After examining fossil tracks of creatures, the angles of the dunes, and other factors, it’s been shown that the most likely scenario is an underwater formation

31. According to the Bible, there is only one race of people (called the Human race) Genesis 3:20: “The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” Acts 17:26: “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth”

32. Human genome project: “Dr. Venter and scientists at the National Institutes of Health recently announced that they had put together a draft of the entire sequence of the human genome, and the researchers had unanimously declared, there is only one race -- the human race.” Evolution predicted otherwise “The Races of Man – At the present time there exist upon the earth five races or varieties of man… and finally, the highest type of all, the Caucasians, represented by the civilized white inhabitants of Europe and America.” - A Civil Biology: p .196

The Bible gives a very different picture than what we see today of what life originally was like on earth Genesis 1:31: “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” They were in the presence of God in the Garden of Eden, they walked with him and talked with him Everything was perfect until man sinned But instead of killing Adam and Eve on the spot and starting over, God had a plan for redemption to bring us back into a relationship with him

34. And 2,000 years ago John 1:1-3, 14: ”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made… 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Psalm 8:3-4: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him,”
