WDFW FISH PASSAGE/FISH SCREENING PRIORITIES • FISH PASSAGE AND SCREENING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE • PASSAGE AND SCREENING CORRECTION ON AGENCY LANDS • FISH PASSAGE AND SCREENING INVENTORIES • FACILITATE COMPLIANCE CORRECTIONS AT NON-AGENCY FISH SCREENS
KEY INITIATIVES • Correction of passage and screening problems on WDFW lands • Forest and Fish Agreement – “passage of all species and life stages” (by 2016) • Aggressive WSDOT fish passage efforts • FRIMA/SRFB/etc. grant programs • Project partnerships with BOR, Conservation Districts, etc.
Inventories • WDFW lands inventory • Inventory complete in WWA; ~25% complete in EWA • 58 road-related barriers and 93 non-road barriers identified to date • WSDOT inventory • 3,112 state highway stream crossings inventoried through March 2006 • 1,136 barriers with significant habitat gain identified through March 2006 • FRIMA comprehensive watershed inventory • Third party inventories
Screen/Fishway Inspection/Maintenance • Mitchell Act • Inspect/maintain 15 fish screens and 46 fishways • BPA • Inspect/maintain 28 fish screens • State screen inspection • Inspect ~150 third-party fish screens • Fishway inspections • WSDOT – Inspect 152 WSDOT-owned fishways • WDFW – Inspect/maintain 64 agency-owned fishways • No longer have funding to inspect the additional ~400 third party fishways
YAKIMA CONSTRUCTION SHOP (YCS) ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Western WA • Clallam Cline Diversion - intake and screen renovation • Elwha Hatchery - water intake screen renovation • Naselle Hatchery - water intake screen renovation • Shillapoo WA - renovation of plate screen seals • Independent Diversion - intake and screen renovation (2007) • Sequim Prairie Diversion - intake and screen renovation (2007) • Canyon Creek - fish passage at hatchery water intake (design completed)
YCS ACCOMPLISHMENTS(cont.) • North Central WA • Wells WA - replacement of 4 pump screens and pumps • Methow Valley E/W Diversions - reconstruction of drum screen facilities and passage (BOR project) • McDevitt Diversion - replacement of screen with modular drum screen • Hottell Diversion - replacement of screen with modular drum screen • Jones/Shotwell - fabrication of new plate wiper screen (large) • Aspen Meadows – screen replacement with modular plate screen
YCS ACCOMPLISHMENTS(cont.) • Yakima Basin • Fogarty Diversion – Phase 2 drum (large) screen replacement • Lesh Diversion – installation of new portable modular drum screen • Diversion 14 – new drum screen • Shaw Knox Diversion – Installation of new portable modular drum screen • Shaw Knox Side Channel – prefab of concrete weir/pool fishway • Garretson Diversion – installation of new plate screen
