  3. What happened and when????????????? • They were built in the late 1700’s • They took 6 years to build. • In the war of 1812. they were destroyed. • They were built in Sault Ste Marie.

  4. Who was involved and why did it happen! • The congress passed an act granting that land to MI. • Fair Bank Scale Co. did construction. • Charles . T . Harvey completed two locks one behind another. • People could nicely go down or up 21 feet.

  5. Why is it important and how does it relate to today??? • It saved people from having to unload then reload boats luggage. • So no one gets hurt. • It takes ships from lake Superior to lake Huron. • It helps the shipping industry.
