  1. LRCA Membership Scheme

  2. Leicestershire ECF Membership Scheme • Opportunity to individuals to join ECF via LRCA • Completely optional scheme • Decision is per player • £10 (£5 juniors) per annum membership fee * see below • Exemption from game fee (45p per player per game) nationwide! • Cheaper League Fees! Clubs receive a £7 credit per member • Discounted Entry Fees (£2 - £6) for congresses! • Free Summer Cups & County Championships! • Receive electronic list of graded games each year • Receive ECF magazine “Chess Moves” electronically, free • LRCA receives 10% of the membership fee which will be given back to the individual member in the first year – making the cost just £9

  3. What about club fees? • Each club should decide what discount (if any) they will give to members who join the scheme • Clubs will receive an up front credit of £7 per member against the game fee portion of league fees • All games by members are game fee exempt saving the club 45p per game ie £6.30 per team (refunded at end of the season) • If a player plays for 2 teams, the saving is doubled! • LRCA encourages all clubs to pass the full saving on to their members

  4. What should our club do?Case Study • A club have 3 teams in the league. They also have 2 in the Chapman Cup and 1 in the Harrod Cup. Their players play some county and congress chess, and they have a club championship. • The club has 15 active members and 3 occasional players. • The 15 active players played between 8 and 36 games, with the average being 19. • League fees for 2006/7 would total £157, Summer Cups would cost £19 and the Club Championship £6 – total £182.

  7. What should our club do? • There is no right answer • What is for one club will not be right for another. • Each club and player must make their own decision based on their own circumstances. • Many clubs will find that if all their active players join the scheme it will cost around £2 extra per player. • This extra cost is likely to be saved in benefits received. • Players may want to pay the extra themselves to receive the benefits of membership. • It is almost certain that every club will have some players who would benefit financially by joining the scheme.

  8. What Next? • We ask that you tell your club colleagues about the sceme • We encourage clubs to give discounted membership to members of the scheme • We hope that the reduce costs encourage you and your colleagues to play more competitive games !!
