The Veneto Region: territorial characteristics Population size: 4.5M Surface Area(km2): 24,840
Challenges related to the Regional system … Ageing of the population and consequent increase in service demand; Continuous rise in costs of services determined by scientific and technological innovation; Increasing immigrant population thanks to working possibilities and “Crisis” unemployment; Youth unemployment or precarization.
Regional goal is to act and implement policies and interventions that should be instruments to reach social inclusion. In particular, the Veneto Region: • actively involved in Eu networks and projects • organizes and supports “Local Action Plans” on Social Issues involving Municipalities and LHUs; • gives financial support to third sector working with social exclusion; • promotes cultural and educational activities targeted to families;
Selectionofonegoodpractise: Family Policies Family has a fundamentalrole: In educationas first educational agency in economictermsreferingtoeconomicalsupportto the personal growing and developmentofprofessionalskills in social inclusionascontextwhereintegrationcouldbeexperimented in supportactions, wheresolidarityamongmemberis a fondamentalvalue
Family policies increase competitiveness through reconciliation initiatives: • Specific answers according to maternity and paternity leave, care problems • Support to enterprises for welfare and family friendly projects • (award of a family label) • Coordination of time and space in cities • Creation of specific flexible services for small children (nursaries in families)
Family Label Its an award implying a quality collaboration between profit and non for profit Authorities and the Region itself. The Productive sector, the Social sector and the Administrative sector must produce positive collective results in terms of • family policies • social inclusion
CONCLUSIONS IN RELATION TO THE BEST PRACTISE PRESENTED Putting the family in the centre of Regional Policies: • Increased the quality of life of its members • Enhanced the productivity of family members in society • Involved the Local Level into Policy-making (decentralization), bringing policies closer to the citizens.
