Identification of key environmental aspects of a product throughout its entire life cycle • Definition of strategies aimed at continuous improvement of the environmental performance of the product
Compliance with relevant regulations on hazardous substances and wastes • Consideration of the end-of-life of the product to make end-of-life treatment more efficient
ECD에서는 제품 단독보다는 제품의 전과정에 걸친 환경영향을 저감시킬 수 있는 제품 설계를 강조한다. • 주안점 : • 제품자체(제조공정 및 공급부품)의 환경영향 저감 • Accessories 및 기타 보조재료(포장재, 소모품 등)의 환경영향 저감 • 제품 사용시의 환경영향 저감 • 재사용 및 재활용 개선을 위한 해체(disassembly)의 안정성 및 용이성 증진 • 폐기시 환경영향 저감
주요 환경측면 파악을 목표로 전과정 고려(Life Cycle Thinking ; LCT)를 통한 ECD 평가 • LCT에 의거한 평가 • Multicriteria 기준 사용

Material Declaration • 기본원칙 • 제품에 포함된 substance만 고려 • 공정에 투입되었으나 제품에 포함되지 않은 경우 (ancillary material) 고려 안 함 • Nomenclature로 식별 가능할 것 • 모든 substance에 적용 가능한 절차(procedure) 제시 • Umbrella spec 적용 • 즉, 유사제품의 경우(예: resister) 대표 제품으로 간주
