  2. Tip #1 Read ALL directions BEFORE you answer any questions.

  3. Tip #2 • Read the questions first!!! • This will help you read the passage with a purpose! • You will read with more focus.

  4. Tip #3 • Underline key words and phrases in the question. • Ask yourself “Will I find this answer directly stated in the passage or will I have to think about it and draw a conclusion on my own?”

  5. Tip #4 • Preview the reading selection. How is the passage organized? • Read the title. • Read the first paragraph. • Read the last paragraph. • Skim over the entire passage. • NOW -Read the passage!

  6. Tip # 5 • Read the entire question again and ALL answer choices before marking an answer choice. • Eliminate the obviously wrong answers!

  7. Tip # 6 • Watch for words such as: • NOT • ALL • ALWAYS • NEVER • MOST • ONLY

  8. Tip # 7 • Strategies for solving math problems: • Read the problem • Identify key information • Determine what you need to do to solve • Use your scrap paper!!! • Evaluate your answer – Is it reasonable? Does is make sense? Check your calculations!!

  9. REMEMBER!!! • DO NOT CHANGE AN ANSWER UNLESS YOU KNOW IT IS WRONG!!! • USUALLY YOUR FIRST CHOICE IS THE CORRECT CHOICE!

  10. Tip #8 CONCENTRATE!CONCENTRATE!! DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE DISTRACTED BY NOISES OR MOVEMENT AROUND YOU.

  11. Tip #9 PACE YOURSELF but WATCH YOUR TIME *USE ALL THE TIME YOU ARE GIVEN.

  12. IF YOU HAVE TIME, GO BACK AND CHECK OVER YOUR WORK. • MAKE SURE ALL ANSWERS ARE FILLED IN CORRECTLY. • ERASE ANY STRAY MARKS.

  13. Tip #10 THINK POSITIVE

  14. Tip #11 GET PLENTY OF REST

  15. #12 EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST

  16. Believe in yourself! We believe in you!!! Reflect on the strategies that work for you! Share with a partner or with the class. On a post-it note, write a positive comment to a friend or classmate and place it on the parking lot!
