History • HERC stands for Higher Education Recruitment Consortium • Began in 2000 in Northern California • National coordinating office established in 2008 to increase visibility of the regional HERCs and provide ongoing consultation and support • Resource for the entire higher education community

  4. Mission The mission of the regional HERCs is to advance the efforts of their member institutions to recruit and retain outstanding and diverse faculty and staff and to assist dual career couples. The mission of the the National HERC is to facilitate national strategic initiatives that help the regional HERC’s accomplish their goals and to promote HERC-wide visibility.

  5. Regional HERC Growth Since this time last year, HERCs have formed in the following regions: • Michigan • Greater Chicago • St. Louis • Upper Midwest • Mid Atlantic There are now 13 HERCs in 22 U.S. states with 394 member institutions.

  6. Overview The regional/National HERCs accomplish their mission through: • Comprehensive regional higher education job boards • Regular regional meetings with guest speakers covering topics of interest to member institutions • Email job alerts and dual career search capabilities • Regional multicultural and relocation information and resources • Best practice sharing on recruitment and retention topics among members • Advertising and outreach to potential higher education jobseekers • Jobseeker data tracking

  7. 2007-08 Accomplishments • Formally established the National HERC and Advisory Board • Partnership with the American Council on Education (ACE) • Launched www.nationalherc.org • Visibility at the following professional conferences: American Council on Education (ACE), College and University Professional Association – HR (CUPA-HR) National and Southern Region conference, and National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE). • Retained consultants to assist in developing a corporate sponsorship and partnership plan including vendor discounts. • $40,000 budget approved for national advertising plan • HERC named in the top 10 list of Stanford University’s dual career study report.
