Ohm’s Law • Georg Simon Ohm formulated the relationships among voltage, current and resistance. R = resistance (Ω) I = current (A) V = voltage (V)
Ohm’s Law (Cont…) • The current in the circuit is directly proportional to the applied voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance of the circuit.
Power (P) • Define = how much work (conversion of energy) can be done in a specific amount of time P = power (W) W = energy (J) t = time (s) • Unit = Watt (W)
Efficiency (𝜂) • The output energy level must always be less than the applied energy due to losses and storage within the system. Pi = Energy input Po = Energy input Plost or stored = Energy lost or stored in system
