4/14 Bell Ringer What is the sum of the interior angles in a regular hexagon? 720° 2. What is the measure of each individual angle in a regular hexagon? 120° Grab a calculator, ruler, protractor and today’s guided notes. Homework: NONE
4/14 News and Notes • Perfection Award (from Friday) – 9th Period • Last Week’s MVPs: Eugene, Veronica, Geovany, Lamont, Crystal • Gazebo Service Learning TODAY @ 3:31
4/14 Agenda • I CAN create and measure exterior angles. • Bell Ringer • Do we need a interior angle mini-lesson? • What is an exterior angle? • Create and measure an exterior angle. • ACT Question of the Day
Interior Angle Mini-Lesson Sum of Interior Angles: 180(n-2) = 180(5-2) = 180(3) = 540° Each Individual Interior Angle: SUM # of Angles
What is an exterior angle? • Today we will discuss what an exterior angle is and we will construct a few exterior angles. • Tomorrow we will investigate and discover: • The relationship between interior and exterior angles. • How to easily determine the sum of exterior angles and each individual exterior angle in any regular polygon
What is an exterior angle? • Agile Mind Animation Topic 17 Exploring Interior and Exterior Angles Page 9 • Can you walk the other direction? • An exterior angle is an angle that is created using the vertex of a polygon, but the angle is on the outside of the polygon.
Construct an Exterior Angle V Step 1: Use ruler to draw one exterior angle at each vertex on the pentagon. Step 2: Place a point on each new ray you drew (call them points V, W, X, Y, and Z) Step 3: Name your angles using three letters <VBO, <WOG, <XGA, <YAN, <ZNB Step 4: Measure each exterior angle Step 5: If you finish early, measure the interior angles B Z 72° 72° N O W 72° 72° Y G A 72° V X 60° B E W U 60° Repeat Steps 1-5 for the hexagon 60° N L 60° 60° X Z A 60° G Y
Is there time left? • Take the rest of the time to think about what we will be doing tomorrow: • What’s the relationship between interior and exterior angles? • What’s the sum of the exterior angles? • How can you find the measurement of each individual exterior angle?
