Goals Developmentof leaders through engagements in the community which leverage and challenge their skills. What Does a Fellowship Look Like? It’s a strategic, pre-defined project with clear deliverables: • One person, full-time, 6-12 month duration • Fellow takes Program or Project Manager role, leading the initiative • Clear metrics for success • Realistic timeline for execution • Repeatable, sustainable, scaleable outcome
PROJECT CRITERIA • WHO DOES THE NPO/NGO SERVE DSO (Direct Service Organization) - Primary focus must fall into one of our issue areas, ie: Healthcare, Basic Human Needs or Education. TSO/MSO (Technical/Management Service Organization) – The project must primarily serve one of the above issue areas – OR- If the project benefits a broad segment of the nonprofit sector, the TSO/MSO must pilot the project with a DSO from one of our three issue areas. • RESULTS We need an understanding of the effectiveness of past projects, ie: what did you achieve, what were the results, etc. • METRICS Project must have clear goals and metrics which can be accomplished during the 6-12 month full time engagement. • SCALABLE/REPLICABLE WITH CLEAR SECTOR VALUE The Project must be scalable and appropriate for other organizations, ie: a packaged product or process with a clear value to the part of sector focused on that would be made generally available. Number of people that will benefit from the project is important. • TECHNOLOGY The project must leverage internet technology in some manner. (For organizations that do not have their own tech staff, project must clearly articulate how technology solution will be implemented and sustained).
PROJECT CRITERIA (cont). • BUDGET Funding for project must be identified and secured by the NPO/NGO prior to the approval of the Fellowship. • JOB DESCRIPTION Fellows role must be clearly defined • PROJECT PLAN Project must be defined and approved by the organization as a priority for the timeframe stated. • SUSTAINABILITY Must be able to demonstrate the sustainability of the project, particularly after the Fellows leaves including an exit strategy. • SENIOR LEVEL SPONSOR Fellows contact person (name of senior level sponsor and dept.) must be identified and available for support during the entire Fellowship.
Examples of Projects • Establish a process to extend credit to a large dispersed population living below the poverty line through creative use of technology and create the appropriate infrastructure and partnerships • Develop innovative curriculum approaches using technology for delivery, in an effort to better prepare all students for work and college • Create a business plan including identification of appropriate vendors and partners for the delivery of health care services assessable to the underserved in a more cost effective manner
Examples Examples of projects we would not fund: • Capital campaigns/fundraising • Market research • Opportunities where the Fellow fills a job at the organization vs acts as a Project Manager • Non strategic projects or projects that are not a priority for the requesting organization • Projects without the support of the organization’s headquarters, if applicable
