Decay of the Earth’s Magnetic Field. Erosion of the Continents. Continents Should Be at Sea Level. Not Enough Sediment in the Ocean. Not Enough Topsoil. Polystrate. Fossils. Atmospheric Helium. Exhaustion of the Sun. 20 Million Years Ago. Dissipation of Oil Pressure.

Erosion of the Continents • Continents Should Be at Sea Level • Not Enough Sediment in the Ocean • Not Enough Topsoil
Polystrate Fossils
Dissipation of Oil Pressure • Oil Trapped Under Sedimentary Rock • Sedimentary Rock is Semi-Porous • Pressure Should Dissipate Within Thousands not Millions of Years
Pn = P(1 + r)n • P = Population at a Given Time = Number of Years • n = Rate of Annual • r Population Increase
Pn = P(1 + r)n 50 x 109 = 6 x 109(1 + .02)n n = 107 years
Now BackwardPn = P(1 + r)n 6 x 109 = 2(1 + .02)n n = 1047 years
And Forward AgainPn = P(1 + r)n Pn = 2(1 + .0033)1,000,000 Pn = 1.3 x 101431 people
“one day is with the Lord as a thousand years” • 2 Peter 3:8 states ‘that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years,’ therefore, the days of creation could be long periods of time. • This passage has no creation context—it is not referring to Genesis or the six days of creation.
Genesis 1:6-8 – The Second Day 6 And God said, “Let there be a vault (firmament, expanse) between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault (firmament, expanse) and separated the water under the vault (firmament) from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault (firmament, expanse) “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
Hebrew word for vault or firmament is “raqia” Raqia is defined as an expanse or spread out thinness and may be synonymous with our modern term of space. This vault or firmament is then named by God to be sky (or heaven in some translations). This verse seems to confirm that firmament and sky/heaven are essentially the same both meaning space in general or a particular region of space depending on context.
There are three particular heavens mentioned in scripture: 1. The atmospheric heaven – the physical sky where birds fly (Jeremiah 4:25) 2. The place where the stars and constellations are – What we refer to as outer space (Isaiah 13:10) 3. Where God’s throne is located (Hebrews 9:24) and where the angels are (Nehemiah 9:6)
Firmament is used to describe the three “heavens” 1. The place where the sun, moon and stars are (Genesis 1:17) 2. A place where the birds fly (Genesis 1:20) 3. A place for God and spiritual beings (Ezekiel 1:22-26)
Critics of the Bible • Have often said that the writings of Genesis reflect an “unscientific view” of the universe • One of these criticisms centers on the Hebrew word raqia used in the creation account of Genesis 1. • Several Bible versions, such as the New King James, translate this word as firmament
Genesis 1:6–8 - NJKV • Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
Genesis 1:6–8 - NASB Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
But which is the correct term to use? The Septuagint (a Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures produced by Jewish scholars in the third century BC at the request of the Egyptian pharaoh) translates raqia into the Greek word stereoma, which connotes a solid structure.
But what does the Hebrew word raqia actually mean? The Hebrew noun raqia is derived from the verb raqa, which means “to spread abroad, stamp, or stretch.” This word is used in the Old Testament in several places for the stamping out of metal into a sheet.
“let it divide the waters from the waters” • Here some of the water from day one is said to be divided or separated above and below by a vault or expanse or firmament in some translations.
Psalm 148:4 • “Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above the heavens!” • The psalmist wrote this in a post-Flood world in the context of other post-Flood aspects. So, it appears that the windows of heaven may still exist at this point.
Revelation 4:1-6 1 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. 6 Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.
Revelation 22:1 • “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb”.
Genesis 1:9-10 – The Third Day 9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Jeremiah 32:27 “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?
“Land” and “Sea” named • Then he named this dry place the land and the place where the water retreated the seas. These were of course not the same land and seas that we have today, these were completely changed by the flood. The foundation of the land was perfectly laid according to God’s plan.
Genesis 1:11-13 – The Third Day 11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
Hebrew word for vegetation is “dese” Usually this means just “grass” but here in context it is a generic term for the specified categories of seed bearing plants and seed bearing trees. No other forms of vegetation are mentioned here in this passage, the account in this passage focuses only on the plants that produce seeds.
Genesis 1:19 29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. The seed bearing plants are specifically created and given to us for food.
The Anthropic Principle The idea that the earth and in fact the entire universe is finely tuned for life and more specifically human life. The word anthropic comes from a Greek word meaning human being. As we observe the universe we see that it is in fact finely tuned to support life.
Probability Estimate for Attaining the Necessary Characteristics for a Life Support Body Dr. Hugh Ross has actually identified 322 different factors that would all have to be present in order for life to have a chance of occurring in the universe Factors include the right amount of atmospheric pressure, carbon dioxide level in atmosphere, water vapor level in atmosphere, bacteria in the oceans, quantity of elements necessary to support life (nickel, copper, calcium, boron, zinc, tin, etc.), distance to a sun, etc, etc, etc…….
