Estuaries By Carter, Mya, Jacob, and Diego
What are Estuaries? • An estuary is along a coastline (such as bays, lagoons, sounds) where freshwater systems and rivers meet. • Sometimes, freshwater from rivers mixes with large freshwater bodies creating a "freshwater estuary“. • The Five major types of estuaries are coastal plain, bar-built, delta system, tectonic, and fjords.
Why is Change Important to Estuaries? • Estuaries change constantly. Change because of healthy estuaries. • The organisms have adapted to tolerate the changing conditions of estuaries. • Weather patterns, seasonal cycles and climate change affect and change conditions in estuaries. • This warming is causing sea level to rise, which may ultimately result in flooded and lost estuaries.
