What are Estuaries? • An estuary is along a coastline (such as bays, lagoons, sounds) where freshwater systems and rivers meet. • Sometimes, freshwater from rivers mixes with large freshwater bodies creating a "freshwater estuary“. •  The Five major types of estuaries are coastal plain, bar-built, delta system, tectonic, and fjords. 

  3. Why is Change Important to Estuaries? • Estuaries change constantly. Change because of healthy estuaries. • The organisms have adapted to tolerate the changing conditions of estuaries.  •  Weather patterns, seasonal cycles and climate change affect and change conditions in estuaries. • This warming is causing sea level to rise, which may ultimately result in flooded and lost estuaries.
