  2. Understanding the need to heat treat wooden crates and pallets A heat treatment is essential to protect against termites or similar pests. Termite population in the US continues to grow with the warm and humid weather of south east US a favorite place. Exporting crates and pallets can benefit from the ISPM-15 treatment.

  3. Brief history of Wood pests; Formosan termites Formosan termites are basically from East Asia and they were brought to the United States in 1940s during Second World War. When the military returned home, most of the shipments included termites in the wooden cargo. And this is the way they invaded USA. These termites will live and attack wooden structures which leads to quite significant damage.

  4. Using ISPM-15 in the United States, Canada, and Europe Shipping and wooden crates must pass the International Phyto-Sanitary Standard in terms of the ISPM-15 for safety. Europe plus other countries around the globe make sure you follow the full rules of this practice. The make of the International standard process includes 3 fundamental steps: • Debark the timber • Use the heat treatment process • Get the mark for compliance In other parts of the planet such as the United States and Canada, the set-up for the wooden crates did not include the ISPM-15 process. But this can increase the chance of pest attacks. To prevent enhancing the risk, in addition they decided to abide by the rules used elsewhere for the shipping wooden pallets and crates.
