ARTICLES • Index card • Make notes on front about similar content, development, style. • For example – my two on stroke • Define “global aphasia” • Identify certain symptoms • List possible causes • Suggestions for treatment • Suggestions for home help ideas, like labeling items • Provide additional web sites for more information. • By credible organizations • Index card • Make notes regarding differences in content, development, and style • 1 was informational article by Amer. Heart Assoc. 1 was personal story from Mary Freebed Hospital’s web site • Informational talked about all kinds of aphasia and all the different technical possibilities of causes. Personal story mentioned a couple causes and focused on global aphrasia as that was the personal experience. Focused on coming home, help, treatment, suggestions.

Article Report • Please show your index card – once completed you will get a COW. • Please begin a document in googledrive – share with me and allow me rights to comment and/or edit. • You need to get through the first 3 sections by tomorrow. What you do not finish in class, please finish before class tomorrow. • If you do not have computer access at home, handwrite it and bring it with you.
Article Report • Introduction – sum up topic and what was covered in two articles. • 1st body – Focus on details of what they both shared. For example, “The two articles on stroke both defined ‘global aphasia.” The one from the American Heart Association explained what aphasia meant in general terms and how it applied to the brain trauma of a stroke. The other was written by Karen, the stroke victim’s wife, and she focused on how the type of aphasia her husband experienced made it impossible for him to recognize most language, written or verbal. She focused on what it meant to them as a family not just the definition.” • Go on to develop 3-4 key similarities.

It then identified the different parts of the brain that can be affected and what is impacted from each part. The second article explained what was the cause of the man’s stroke, a blog clot, but then went into how the wife knew her husband was in trouble and taking him to the hospital and receiving the diagnosis.” • Go on to discuss 2-3 more differences. • Select the ones that matter the most to you or that strike you as most important.
