QuickTool 19 Start a Certified Manager Program SUMMARY: The Certified Manager Program (CM Program), sponsored by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM), is a program of comprehensive management training and assessment that leads to Certified Manager (CM) certification. The CM Program can be offered as a part of your chapter’s Professional Development Program. CM certification is available to all managers and potential managers that meet ICPM’s eligibility criteria for education and experience. Chapter members benefit from CM certification by obtaining public recognition for achieving a level of management competency and professionalism that comes from completing a program of management training and passing three CM assessment exams covering the areas of planning, organizing, leading and controlling. FUNDING: CM Program fees can be paid by the individual chapter member, employer, NMA chapter, or a combination of these sources. REQUIREMENTS: NMA chapters provide: 1) CM program committee comprised of a facilitator, instructor, and marketing team, 2) site facilities for CM classes (10-15 persons), 3) CM Program instruction (instructor materials provided by ICPM), 4) marketing to program participants, and 5) recognition event (recommended), at program completion. The facilitator is the point person responsible for coordinating logistics (meeting room and AV equipment), class registration, submission of CM applications, CM material orders and payment, and scheduling CM exams and exam proctors. The instructor is chosen by the CM committee and may be a qualified senior manager, NMA chapter officer, Certified Manager with training/presentation experience, or a private or corporate trainer. One or more instructors may be used to “team teach” the CM Program. Class participants may also be assigned to act as discussion leaders. The marketing team is charged with communicating times and dates of classes and exams, as well as payment and attendance policies for the CM Program. A question and answer session (led by one of the chapter’s Certified Managers) at a chapter meeting held prior to the start of a CM Program is recommended. ICPM will provide tri-fold brochures and a PowerPoint presentation upon request. The ICPM web site also contains useful information and forms for the CM Program at http://www.icpm.biz. Rev 11-11
