Narrow Bandwidth Channels in TGj Christopher Hansen Broadcom Corporation Christopher Hansen, Broadcom
Current Approach • Clock dividing scheme proposed in 03/114r1 • Take existing .11a 20 MHz clock and divide by 2 or 4 • Everything else remains the same Christopher Hansen, Broadcom
Problems Caused • Slows down MAC timing • Additional throughput reduction in excess of PHY loss • Tightens frequency tolerance beyond a reasonable specification • .11a 20ppm / 4 = 5 ppm • Narrow bandwidth devices need more expensive components • A 5 ppm tolerance is probably not feasible; it is definitely not desirable Christopher Hansen, Broadcom
Solution • TGj needs to examine better solutions that will meet our PAR • We need a call for proposals specifically for PHY modifications for the narrow band channels Christopher Hansen, Broadcom
