Recent Accomplishments • Completion of 6-year financial plan. • Acquired A Lot at Main St. Station to supplement parking on MCV Campus (250 spaces). • Launch of new alternative transportation program.
Transportation GRTC Partnership • In August, VCU entered into a one-year service agreement with GRTC to provide unlimited transportation access on the GRTC Pulse and regular local and express fixed-route bus service for all VCU, VCU Health System, and Virginia Premier employees at no cost to the rider.
Transportation GRTC Partnership, cont. • GO Passes distributed in January to provide additional ridership metrics. • Ridership numbers this quarter: • January: 77,242 (17,926 on Pulse) • February: 82,898 (27,902 on Pulse)
Transportation GRTC Partnership Status • Last quarter, we distributed a survey to a sample of students and employees to assess the pilot program. • 95.4% of respondents want the GRTC Partnership to continue • 99% of respondents who rode the Pulse say they will ride again • 50% of respondents want to keep GRTC and discontinue the Campus Connector • 25% of respondents want to keep both GRTC and the Campus Connector
Transportation GRTC Partnership Status, cont. • We continue to monitor service performance and passenger satisfaction. • Future service plans will be communicated to students and employees as we move closer towards the summer.
Transportation GRTC Travel Training Sessions • Partnering with GRTC to host hour-long travel training sessions. • April 18 - MCV Campus - Sanger Hall • How to navigate the Pulse, Route 5 and commuting from Northside / Southside • April 24 - Monroe Park - Technology Admin. Building • How to navigate the Pulse, Route 5 and commuting from East End / West End
Transportation GRTC Travel Training Sessions, cont. • Sign-up can be done online at go.vcu.edu/grtc. • 15-person max. per session • We will evaluate demand and incorporate additional sessions if the need exists.
Financial Plan • As an auxiliary enterprise, Parking and Transportation funds its parking operations solely from the revenue it generates. • We have recently completed our 6-year financial plan. • As part of this plan, there is a proposed rate increase for the upcoming fiscal year.
Financial Plan • Average 4.5% ($3.53) increase requested for student and employee permits; awaiting Board approval in May. • Will supplement increased cost for transportation, necessary facility maintenance and new technologies.
Maintenance Plan • Over the next 5 years, we will require approximately $9 million in repairs, or approximately $2 million per year. • A maintenance plan to address the deck assessments is being developed. • Immediate, year 1, year 2, year 3, year 5, and ongoing maintenance categories • Currently working on addressing immediate and year 1 repairs
Maintenance Plan • Potential for several “smaller” projects to take place over summer 2019 in several decks. • All decks impacted within the next 12 months; scope varies, but primarily structural repairs • Impacts will be minimal for subscribers
Reboot Your Commute • We have partnered with VCU Health System and VCU Administration on the development of a new alternative transportation program for employee parking subscribers, “Reboot Your Commute.” • Designed to provide attractive incentives for employees who make the commitment to carpool or use alternative transportation to get to work. • Launched on April 3; subscribers notified via email
Reboot Your Commute • The first 100 employees who turn in their VCU parking permit to use alternative transportation are eligible to receive: • Monetary incentive of $100 (taxable) • 12 free daily parking passes, provided annually • Carpools coordinated through GRTC’s RideFinders. • Emergency rides home for registered users • Learn more and apply online at commute.vcu.edu.
West Main Street Deck • Renovation work has been completed; however, contractors will complete punch list items this summer, to include re-striping. • Contractor may block off up to 500 spaces per day for one week • Work will take place in May; subscribers to be notified in advance
High School Graduation Impacts • June 4-15 • Expect same procedure as last year: • WBSD relocations to WCSD, HSD, JSD • Shuttles will be provided to ease relocation burden for subscribers • Reciprocal parking impacted for MCV Campus subscribers at WBSD • Communications will be distributed, beginning in May, with additional details/expectations for those subscribers impacted
Transportation RamSafe • Recently re-aligned driver schedules to our greatest peaks. • Wait times decreasing as a result • Continue to hire additional part-time drivers.
Transportation RamRide • Contract for existing transportation provider expires this year. • The RFP process is currently underway for the selection of our next provider. • Selection process expected to be completed soon, with the new contractor coming onboard July 1.
Next Steps • Enhancing alternative transportation initiatives • Implementation of pay-by-phone technology • Creation of a unified parking policy • Transition to Facilities Management (FMD) from VCU Police
