  4. Refugees Palestinian refugees burning Israeli flag Thousands flee their homelands every year to escape from war, in search of freedoms, and to look for a better life.

  5. Refugees fleeing genocide in Rwanda

  6. Drug Trade Poppy grower in Afghanistan. Many farmers make much more money producing drugs than they do producing legitimate products Coca plants in S. America. Those that participate in the drug trade become very wealthy and may even threaten legitimate governments.

  7. Terrorism A few individuals can terrorize the masses

  8. Religious Extremism can take many forms • Westboro Baptist Church…Fred Phelps Suicide bombers recruiting more bombers is an Islamic extreme, not the norm.

  11. Toxic Sludge

  12. Dogs covered in sludge following hurricane Katrina

  13. Forest clear-cutting

  14. Global Warming

  15. Human Rights Young children working in the bricklaying business.

  16. Homeless child living on the streets of Brazil, playing with her doll.

  17. Look at that child’s hand! This is just ridiculous.

  18. Young girl left to die in a Chinese orphanage…she actually died a few days after this picture was taken. No efforts were made to save her. The Chinese government deny she ever existed. This is the only proof of her life.

  19. In the end… • We’re all interconnected • Think all this stuff doesn’t affect us??? Think again • What is the role of the US in these matters?
