The history of the NBA ` The National Basketball Association was founded on 6th July 1946 in New York. NBA’s first name was Basketball Assocation of America. The league adopted the name „National Basketball Assocation” after 3 years. Nowadays the league’s owner is David Stern who became its comissioner in 1984. Through his efforts the NBA became the most famous basketball league in the world. He built 28 new arenas and allowed to create 7 new teams. NBA Finals Trophy renamed to Larry O’Brien trophy.
NBA teams • The NBA has got two conferences: Western and Eastern • Each conference consists of 15 teams
Hall of Fame • The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Springfield, Massachusetts, the USA where James Naismith invented the sport in1891. • The Basketball Hall of fame was first incorporated in 1959 at Springfield College • It honors exceptional basketball players, coaches, referees, executives, and other major contributors to the game of basketball worldwide. • The most distinguished players and coaches are John Wooden, Lenny Wilkens and Bill Sharman.
All Star Weekend Every year the NBA organizes All Star Weekend. There are in All Star Weekend : Slam Dunk Contest 3-point Contest All Star game People votes for their favourite players who will appear in All Star game. Always in All Star Game are the best and the most popular players in the league.
NBA DRAFT • The NBA Draft –is an annual event in which the thirty teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA) can draft players who are eligible and wish to join the league. These players are usually amateur U.S. college basketball players, but international players are also eligible to be drafted.
