Intro The Itaipu damn is the biggest damn that produces hydroelectric power known to man at this time. Bigger dams at this point seem to be being built they’ll take a while before they are built to be bigger than the Itaipu.
When the Itaipu dam was built & its location • The Itaipu dam was built from 1975 to 1991 • The damn was built on the Parana River
How much it cost • The total cost of the Itaipu Dam was about 20 billion spent by the U.S.
How much energy the Itaipu Dam produces • The power plant has 20 generating units making it capable of producing 14,000 megawatts of electricity which is a lot. • Also to show how much this power plant is capable of in 2000 it generated 93,428 gigawatthours of electricity also during that tremendous year for the dam it produced 20% of the energy produced in Brazil & 94% of the energy in Paraguay (the two neighboring countries).
Energy produced recently • After the year 2000 the Itaipu has not successfully produced as much energy as there was that passed year(93,428 gwh). Until, the year of 2008 when the Itaipu created more than a whole extra thousand gigawatthours than the year in 2000(94,684gwh).
Who runs it and who it serves • The dam is run and maintained by Itaipu Binacional company • The Itaipu Dam mainly serves Brazil & Paraguay.
Environmental Impacts • An impact that families near the construction site all had to be moved, which was an estimated amount of 10,000 families. • The dams construction caused 1000’s of lbs of rock to be dug up so more space could be added to its capacity.
