Employee Development Initiatives • Positive Organizational Scholarship (POS)- is an exceptional example of what company-wide employee development can do for a company, and how it can be beneficial. “It focuses explicitly on the positive states and processes that arise from, and result in, life-giving dynamics, optimal functioning, or enhanced capabilities and strengths. This approach focuses on both an individual’s and an organization’s strengths and virtues” (Pace, 2010 p.42). • POS Domains of Excellence • Virtuousness • Positive Leadership (4 Strategies) • Positive Climate, • Positive Relationships, • Positive Communication, • & Positive Meaning
Employee Development Initiatives • In the article (Pace, 2010 p.42) a physician billing department at a large community hospital in the central United States exercised a principle of POS through compassion for one of the employees who had lost three close relatives. They rallied together to get a formal system that allowed them to donate vacation and personal time for her to be off. • Formal Education • Offsite short courses • Onsite short courses • Lectures • Business games & simulations • Adventure Learning
