KS3 Austria Study Visit 2014 • Dates: Wednesday 9th July - Sunday 13th July • Party Leader: Mrs. Carol Smith • Accompanied by: Mrs. Ann Perks & Dr. Mark Cope • Travel Company: STS (School Travel Service)
Travel Details: Departure • Meet @ Birmingham Airport Terminal 1 at 04:45 • Pupils to report to assigned group leader to register & collect workbooks • Pupils to show passports to group leader on arrival but then to hold on to them for check-in and security • Lufthansa LH 2513 departing @ 07:15 (check-in @ 05:00) • Arrive in Munich @ 10:10 • Journey time to hotel 3 hours • Arrive at hotel @ 14:00 (brief service station stop only) - first meal dinner @ 19:00! • Limited in-flight food and drink - pupils advised to buy lunch/snacks/drinks at Birmingham Airport
Travel Details: Return • Depart hotel @ 08:45 Sunday 13th July • Lufthansa Flight LH 2515 from Munich @ 21:45 (check-in from 19:00) • Due to arrive at Birmingham Airport @ 22:50 – prompt collection would be appreciated! Thank you! • Flights have been known to be delayed - please check via Internet www.bhx.com or you can sign up for SMS alerts – details on website • Pupils back at school Monday 14th July without fail!
Travel Details: Luggage • 1 item of hand luggage maximum: • A handbag is classed as 1 item • Recommend no liquids of any kind incl. make-up & drink • Liquids = 100ml max volume. container in transparent, re-sealable 1 litre plastic bag to be presented separately at security. • 1 item of hold baggage = 20kg max weight (Excess = £6+/kg) • Medication in hand luggage - accompanied by a prescription • No gas refills for curling tongs in hand or hold baggage
Accommodation: “Hotel JUFA” Kaprun • Located 10 minute walk outside village centre • Multi-bedded rooms with en suite facilities (allocated before departure) • Full board incl. continental breakfast, packed lunch & 3 course evening meal • Dietary requirements met wherever possible • Facilities include table tennis area, football pitch, “beach” volleyball • Please bring European adaptor for electrical equipment – consider “sharing” hairdryers, curling tongs!

Itinerary: Thursday - Zell am See • Morning: • Depart @ 08:45 • Boat ride on Zeller See • Work time in Zell am See • Afternoon: • Cable car ride to Schmittenhöhe • Alpine walk to Areitbahn gondola • Summer tobogganing in Kaprun • Evening: • Work time and planning for Friday • Meal at 19:00 • Indoor/outdoor games at hotel
Itinerary: Friday - Salzburg • Morning • Depart @ 08:30 by coach • Late morning/afternoon • Walking tour & sightseeing • Workbook activities • Very limited shopping time • Evening: • Meal @ 19:00 • Feedback on work • Outdoor/indoor games
Itinerary: Saturday – Kiztsteinhorn Glacier & Stauseen Visits • Morning: • Depart @ 08:45 • 3 stage gondola/cable car rides to Kitzsteinhorn at 3029 metres • Tour with Ranger of “Gipfelwelt 3000” including panorama platforms, National Park Gallery, Cinema 300 and possible Ice Arena visit
Itinerary: Saturday – Kiztsteinhorn & Stauseen Visits • Afternoon: • Visit to Stauseen with guided tour of dam • Summer tobogganing, if time • Evening: • Meal @ 19:00 • Complete work & pack!
Itinerary: Sunday - Eagle’s Nest • Morning: -Depart 08:45 by coach to Berchtesgaden with visit to Eagle’s Nest • Afternoon: -Visit to Königsee • Late afternoon departure for Munich Airport
Student Workbook • Handed to pupils at airport & to be collected in back at school – prizes for best ones • Contains a variety of language activities • Town trails • Fact finding activities • Quizzes • Puzzles • Study visit diary • Interview Task • Useful vocabulary section and key phrases • Time allocated in the evening for pupils to update their workbook & feedback
What to pack! • Toiletries • Sensible & comfortable footwear suitable for serious walking & appropriate clothes • Sensible bag – you will be expected to carry own A4 workbook, packed lunch, bottle of water & other personal items • Pens, pencils, crayons/felt-tips, glue, scissors & ruler in small pencil case, pocket dictionary! • Suncream (SPF 15 min.) & hat • Waterproof jacket/gloves/hat • Swimming towel & swimsuit • European plug adaptor • Camera/watch!!!
Spending Money • Please note the very strong Euro • Suggested amount: €80-100 max. • Drinks at hotel, snacks & drinks out & about • Souvenir shopping (time & choice very limited!) • Some Sterling to buy lunch at Birmingham Airport • Additional expenses • Additional runs on summer toboggan €7,00 • Postbus charges for local visits €6,00 • Staff will operate a daily banking system if required (Please hand money in labelled envelope – name & amount - to group leader on arrival at airport) • Care needed: Zell am See – Kaprun Sommerkarte!!!
Contact Details! • Hotel telephone: 0043 57 083 640 (emergencies only please!) • Pupils will be given staff mobile numbers for emergency purposes while in Austria • We will contact you & the school in the event of an emergency • Mobiles are allowed – at your own risk! Texting recommended! Chargers! • Remember: • Check with provider before departure that mobile is set up for roaming • Have to pay for outgoing AND incoming calls - check with provider regarding charges – likely to be costly!
Expectations! • Ambassadors of Alderbrook School & guests in another country. At all times, they are expected to: • be sensible & respectful • show consideration to others/ “good manners!” • dress appropriately for a school trip • pay careful attention to & follow instructions given by staff first time • Pupils must go round in groups of at least 3 people • Alcohol & smoking are not permitted/fizzy drinks & sweets! • All socialising is to take place in communal areas of hotel • Pupils will be allocated to a teacher & expected to report to that teacher at set times & without fail • Any misconduct will be dealt with seriously & will result in removal of privileges e.g. freetime, phone call home in extreme circumstances

To be handed in this evening: • Photocopy of “photo” page of passport • European Health card (former E1-11) • Medical/Consent Form • If forgotten, needs to be handed in at the main school office by Monday (16th June)in an envelope labelled “KS3 Austria Study Visit” • Covered by Solihull M.B.C. insurance
