Background of the Study • Pest is any organism that causes nuisance and epidemic disease associated with high mortality. Malaria Dengue
Background of the Study • Some people that are concerned in repelling fleas invented natural products and found ecological-friendly ways that will drive the fleas off.
Statement of the Problem • Pandan Leaves (Pandanus odoratissimusL.) extract contain property that can drive-off fleas? 2. Is there any significant effect in the number of fleas on the dog’s body?
Objective of the Study • To study the response of the dog’s fleas to the application of the extract from the pandanleaves
Statement of the Hypothesis • Pandanleaves extract is not effective as flea-repellent agent. • There is no significant effect on the number of fleas in the dogs’ bodies from the extract of pandanleaves after the different frequencies of the treatment.

Scope and Limitations of the Study • Use of extract from the leaves of pandan in repelling fleas. • Quantitative comparison on the effectiveness of the different concentrations of pandanleaves as anti-flea agent.

Chapter 3 Methodology
Brief Description of the Equipment • Knife - used for slicing the leaves into smaller pieces • Chopping Board - a board where leaves are sliced into smaller pieces • Weighing Scale - weighs the amount of leaves needed for decoction • Measuring Glass - measures the volume of water needed for decoction • Kettle - container used for decoction of the mixture • Basin - used as container for the sliced pandan leaves • Hand Sprayer - used as application tool • Stove - supplies heat for decoction
General Procedure Extraction 1. Researcher gather pandan(PandanusodoratissimusL.) leaves to be sliced into smaller pieces using knife and chopping board.
General Procedures 2. Weigh the amount of smaller pieces using the weighing scale into the basin and put it in the kettle with an amount of water using the measuring glass.
General Procedures 3. Heat the kettle with the use of the stove for thirty minutes (30 minutes) for decoction.
General Procedures 4. Let the kettle be cold and squeeze the pandan leaves (PandanusodoratissimusL.) to get its extract. Set aside the squeezed pandanfor future use.
General Procedures Application • Researcher look for three (3) dogs which suffer from fleas. • The first dog will be treated with 1 kilogram (1 kg) of pandan leaves (PandanusodoratissimusL.) decocted in 1000 mL of water, as Treatment A, using hand sprayer. • The second will be treated with 1 kilogram (1 kg) of pandan leaves (PandanusodoratissimusL.) decocted in 1500 mL of water using hand sprayer, as Treatment B. • The third dog will be treated with 1 kilogram (1 kg) of pandan leaves (Pandanusodoratissimus) decocted in 2000 mL of water, as Treatment C, using hanL.dsprayer.

Results and Interpretation of the Data • It shows that in every trial, there were decreasing numbers of repelled fleas. The dog was treated once a day in 5 consecutive days as represented by the number of trials. There is an evident decrease on the number of fleas on the dog after every treatment
Results and Interpretation of the Data • Treatment A has the highest flea-repelling effect followed by Treatment B then Treatment C.
Chapter 5 Conclusion and Recommendations
Conclusion The researchers documented that the more concentrated pandan leaf extract is further effective than the diluted one, thus the effectiveness rises when the degree of concentration increases.
Recommendations • That the pandan leaf extract be tested to a wide variety of host animals that are also susceptible to dog fleas (Ctenocephalidescanis) like domestic cats and other mammals. • That the propagation of Pandan (PandanusodoratissimusL.) be sustained for future pharmacological intervention on both animals and human.
Recommendations • That in the depth study on the flea-repelling properties of Pandan (PandanusodoratissimusL.) be undertaken hence the determination of the active repelling substance. • That further research to identify the repelling ingredient of the Pandan (PandanusodoratissimusL.) against other pests and insects.
