Embedding Flash Files in PPT (read this info in ‘normal’ rather than ‘view show’ mode)
Open a blank PowerPoint presentation…….. • On the slide where you want to put your flash file….. • Drop down the ‘view’ menu • Select toolbars, and tick ‘visual basic’ • Click on the control toolbox button (hammer and wrench symbol) • Click on ‘more controls’ button (hammer and wrench again) • Scroll down and select ‘Shockwave flash object’ • On the slide where you want your flash file, click and drag to make a box. It will look like what is on slide 5 • Right click on this and select ‘properties’. Try doing this on slide 5 and then come back to this slide • Take a deep breath / nice glass of red……and go to next slide
Now the ‘tricky’ bit… • A window will have opened and should have ‘movie’ highlighted. Click in the box to the right of this and a cursor will appear. Here you are going to type in instructions which are basically the route to the flash file you want to use…… • To do this, go to where the flash file is and ensure that it is set to open in Internet Explorer. Open up the flash file and copy the ‘location’ info which is to the right of the I.E. icon at the top • Paste this in the box to the right of ‘movie’ in the properties of animation window (3 bullets back) • Now look for ‘embed movie’ (7 rows above) and change ‘false’ to ‘true’. There is a drop down menu for this. • Check ‘loop’ is set at ‘true’ …. • and Robert’s your mother’s brother!
Your flash file will now be ‘in’ the crossed box. At this point, you need to have faith! To check it is ‘working’, view your slide in ‘slide show’ mode (Shift F5 is the shortcut) Below is a an example…..
