Words to know • WGM – Work Group Meeting – what we are attending this week, it includes the meeting of Work Groups, tutorials and leadership meetings • Quarter – A portion of the day at the WGM – Work Group Meeting • Trimester – The time between meetings • Work Group – The different groups at HL7 WGM • Realm – Similar to kingdom, but not this defines the rules within a government such as Australian, Germany or other country or HL7 Affiliation • Domain – A portion of Healthcare – Lab, Pharmacy, Dietary, Blood Bank as examples (Does not necessarily suggest realm specific can see UK Lab Domain or Lab Domain meaning covering all realms) • TSC – Technical Steering Committee – The tactical group responsible for the Technical execution of the HL7 Strategies (TBD) • Steering Division – Groupings of HL7 WGs by function (TBD)

HL7 Mission HL7 provides standards for interoperability See: http://www.hl7.org/about/index.cfm?ref=nav Level Seven" refers to the seventh level of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) seven-layer communications model for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) - the application level. The application level interfaces directly to and performs common application services for the application processes. Although other protocols have largely superseded it, the OSI model remains valuable as a place to begin the study of network architecture.
HL7 Work • But…HL7 work also takes place between scheduled Working Group Meetings. Most Committees also conduct some work via email, web page downloads, respective list servers and conference calls.
