History • Established after WWII to prevent another war among them. • France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg and Italy agreed to co-operate in 1951 • The European Union was established in 1992 by the Treaty on European Union (the Maastricht Treaty). • Czech Republic become a member of the EU in 2004.

The EuropeanParliament • 785 members • Basic role is to legislate and control. • Seat of the European Parliament is in Strasbourg and Brussels.
The Council of the EU • 28 members • The representatives of EU Member States meet to legislate, co-ordinate the policies and make political decisions.
The EuropeanCommission • 28 members • Driving force and executive body • The European Commission makes legislate proposals and manages the EU´s money.
The EuropeanCourt of Justice • 28 judges • The European Court of Justice make sure that EU law is applied and interpreted in the same way in all Member states.
