What is a government initiative? • A new action or movement by the government to introduce a new law or measure. • Health initiatives are usually brought in by the government in order to solve problems associated with poor health. They aim to save lives, reduce health inequalities and improve the health of the people.
There are many examples of government initiatives. There are examples in Booklet 5.
In your coursework • You need to show that you have independently researched some government initiatives aimed at improving the health of your target group. • Identify the initiative and explain why it is needed, and what it is intended to achieve. [This will also help you to support your choice of target group.] • That is, what would its effects be on the health and well being of the target group. • Also, try and relate as many initiatives as possible to your chosen campaign topic.
Where can you find out about them? • The internet is a good place for this. You can google ‘government initiatives’ and be specific to health BUT do make sure that they are for this country. • The doh website is useful • So is are Bury nhs and pct websites.
