Guiding Principle: Art is a profession that requires a certain amount of dedication and support. • For artists to continue sustained practice and succeed today they need to have networking opportunities within a creative community. • They also need to acquire business, organizational and strategic planning skills that will supplement and enhance their artistic talents. TAO: Brazil Cultural Events & Programs • International Cultural Exchange with Suzano, Sao Paulo, Brazil • A sister cities relationship was established in 2007 through the work of: • Policarpo Ribeiro with the City Hall of Suzano • Tonietta Walters with the City Hall of Lauderhill • Cultural exchange exhibits & events including artist residencies have taken place and continue in both cities The Arts Office Net Inc. TAO: Brazil • During a stay of 10 days in South Florida the artist Policarpo J. Ribeiro was in a commission meeting with the mayor of Lauderhill and authorities of the city, where were discussed the possibilities of cultural exchange. In that meeting, Suzano was presented as the first city of Brazil to initiate a trial of cultural exchange with Lauderhill. • Images and graphic materials with information about Suzano and about the actions of the present government were presented. • Intentions of cultural exchange and suggestions about possibilities of commercial and tourist exchange were discussed and approved • Policarpo Ribeiro attended the "CULTURAL DIVERSITY FORUM" presented by the Broward County Division of Cultural Affairs in the city of Lauderdale Lakes – Florida. TAO: Brazil The beginnings of Suzano-Lauderhill Sister City Relationship • For the launching of our online gallery [T.A.O. Zone Gallery] in October 2006 which is both Hispanic Awareness Month and Arts & Humanities month, the first online exhibit was ‘Brazil, Spirituality and Art’ showcasing Brazilian artists whose artwork has been reviewed and juried by a team composed of Arts Office representatives and representatives from the Cultural Center in Brazil. • In November 2006, three Broward based African and Caribbean American artists were able to participate in the Negro Sim II Exhibition at the Cultural Center in Brazil. • In March of 2007, Florida International University provided two air passages for Brazilian plastic artists, enabling the travel of the artist Policarpo J. Ribeiro, to do the workshop “Journey of the Spirit” workshop for teachers of Miami-Dade Public Schools. • In May of 2008, Charmille Walters travelled to Suzano to give workshops and presented a work she choreographed for local dancers at the new Municipal Theater The Arts Office Net Inc. Lauderhill Sister Cities International • The Arts Office Net Inc. in partnership with the City of Lauderhill established Lauderhill Sister Cities International to further goals of promoting cultural diplomacy. • Purpose: • Lauderhill Sister Cities International, Inc. promotes the exchange of commerce, culture, education, and charity. • Sister Cities • Chaguanas, Caroni, Trinidad-Tobago • Falmouth, Trelawney, Jamaica • Gemlik, Bursa, Turkey • Suzano, Sao Paulo, Brazil The Arts Office Net Inc. TAO:5448 Gallery In January 2008, the TAO:5448 Gallery opened with the “Artists in Action” exhibit featuring the resident artists of Lauderhill Arts Incubator. • Objective and Purpose • To expose the community to a wide range of artists and their works. • To facilitate exhibitions from the TAO Network, its associates, resident artists, sponsored artists/lecturers and the community. • Future Goal: • Provide visual arts students with practical, out of the classroom experience in operating and administering a gallery, scheduling, organizing, publicizing, installing and lighting exhibitions, and as well as coordinating opening receptions and cultural events. TAO:5448 Gallery • Fall 2008 events were planned in Metropolitan Miami and Greater Fort Lauderdale area that will coincide with two major events centered in the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida: • 2008 ULI Fall Meeting and Urban Land Expo, October 27-30, 2008The ULI tradeshow is an opportunity for artists creating art for public places to present works to individuals in the public and private sectors, responsible for land use and for creating and sustaining communities. • Miami Art Basel Fair, December 4-7, 2008More than 220 leading art galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa will exhibit art works by over 2,000 renowned artists and cutting-edge newcomers. Special exhibitions will feature young galleries, performance art, public art projects and video art throughout the Miami Metropolitan area. The Arts Office Net Inc. International Arts Network
TAO:5448 Gallery • All Americas Cultural Mall: TAO Network is now reviewing portfolios for gallery artists and to be selected for the Universal Human Rights Art Collection of the American Museum of Cultural Diversity[AMCD] located in the All Americas Cultural Mall [AACM] in Lauderhill. 21 artists have already been selected by the gallery. • TAO:5448 Gallery will be moving to 5,000 sq ft of exhibition space in the AACM • Artists chosen by the gallery will be represented in approx. 100sq ft of TAO:5448 Gallery exhibition space and have shares in the gallery. Artists selected by the Museum will receive a royalty from sales of reproductions of the selected work and be promoted by the Museum. The Arts Office Net Inc. International Arts Network
Lauderhill Arts Incubator In October 2007: • The Arts Office Net Inc. in partnership with the Lauderhill Community Redevelopment Agency opened theLauderhill Arts Incubatorlocated in “Renaissance Plaza” • 5450 NW 19th Street, Lauderhill, FL 33313 • Purpose: The Lauderhill Arts Incubator provides affordable studio space where artists can make, exhibit, teach and sell art while interacting with the public.
