Aims • assist you in searching the web more effectively • raise awareness of some of the best educational web gateways for teaching and learning • try some of the subscription e-resources available at your college
Better Googling • choose correct search terms • phrase searching • advanced search options: • Restricted domain or date searches • Search for specific formats • INURL:stoke (within web addresses) • Finding images www.google.co.uk scholar.google.com www.googleguide.com
Saving sites for later • Use Word: copy and paste web site address and click enter/drag and drop the “e” symbol. • Cut and paste a section of text from a web page into Word. Use “unformatted text” option to exclude graphics • Use Internet Explorer Favourites and create a folder • Avoid saving web sites in their entirety
Hands-on activity • Using Google and the tips you’ve been given, explore some web sites related to your subject. • Copy and paste the URLs of some useful resources into a Word document • Try and include a range of resource types: images, journal articles, presentations etc.
