GOD USED THE PROPHETS TO REVEAL HIS WILL Christ’s disciples need to experience God personally
Memory Verse “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 TIMOTHY 3:16
BENEFITS FROM GOD’S REVELATION • Believe God’s inspiration of the Bible • Believe God’s revelation through His prophets STEPS WE NEED TO MAKE
STEP ONE BELIEVE GOD’S INSPIRATION OF THE BIBLE
Inspiration A. What do these texts tell us about the Divine activity in the production of the books of the Bible? 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21 • Through vision and dreams, the Holy Spirit revealed truth • The Holy Spirit guided them in the proclamation of the message
Inspiration B. How does inspiration in Scripture works? I Cor. 7:10-12, 39-40 • VERBAL inspiration - words of the Bible rather than on the author. • THOUGHT inspiration - on the writers, the Holy Spirit ensures that the words used convey God’s truth correctly.
Inspiration QUOTATION “It is not the words of the Bible that are inspired, but the men that were inspired. Inspiration acts not on the man’s words or his expressions but on man himself, who, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, is imbued with thoughts. But the words receive the impress of the individual mind. The divine mind is diffused. The divine mind and will is combined with the human mind and will; thus the utterances of the man are the Word of God.”—EGW, Selected Message, book 1, p. 21.
STEP TWO BELIEVE GOD’S REVELATION THROUGH HIS PROPHETS
God’s Prophets A. What does the Bible say about the use of literary assistants by the biblical writers? Romans 16:22; Jer. 36:1-4 • Both OT and NT writers used literary assistants or scribes to write down the message • Ellen White also used literary helpers because of the great demand for her writings.
God’s Prophets B. What does Luke say about how his Gospel came into existence, and what does it tell us about inspiration? Luke 1:1-4 • In writing in his Gospel, Luke doesn’t seem to have relied on dreams or visions. • Ellen White from time to time used other books as sources for her own works.
