  2. What is a “Vital Congregation?” A vital congregation is one that grows over time, engages more people in its community, involves more people in ministry and mission, and invites people to give generously to mission.

  3. A Vital Congregation Has: • Inviting and inspiring worship • Disciples engaged in mission and outreach • Gifted, equipped and empowered lay leadership • Effective, equipped and inspired clergy leadership • Disciple-forming small group ministries • Strong children’s and youth ministry

Inviting and inspiring worship • 58 on 2012 NCD survey • 2 outstanding, regionally-acclaimed worship services • Weekly Healing and Holy Communion services (Thursdays at 12:15) • Lenten midweek services • Special Services (Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Blessing of Animals, etc.) • Working toward additional service

Disciples engaged in mission and outreach • 63 on 2012 NCD Survey (Need-Oriented Evangelism) • CCC home repair group • Santahatchie and Salkehatchie • Rebuilding Together • Annual Costa Rica mission trip • February trip to Kentucky • Countless volunteers working with meals-on-wheels, Manna House, Lighthouse Ministries, Help4Kids, Thanksgiving food ministry, parking lot ministry (behind Hope Health), and many more

  10. Strong children’s and youth ministry • Engaging, graduated, fun, service-oriented, and formational at all levels • Preschool • SLAM, JrUMYF, VBS, and Mission Camp • UMYF – retreats and weekly meetings • Wednesdays@Central

  11. 2013 Goals – All Achieved! • Receive and respond to Vital Congregations’ recommendations • Review and enhance older elementary experience • Evaluate and execute long-term vision for Youth Ministry • Develop Young Adult Ministry • Offer Domestic Mission Trip • Initiate a Capital Campaign • Participate in a combined event with Cumberland UMC • Devise a long-range plan for the UMW

  12. 2014 (Suggested) Goals • Grow attendance by 5% (26/year leads to AWA of 800 in 10 years) • Begin 3 new Growth Groups • Begin additional worship service • Review of our current preschool program and research the possibility of expanding hours and ages • Investigate ways to continue and expand Central’s relationship with Cumberland UMC • Create Mission Support Ministry
