Carlos Ferran Urdaneta • Doctor of Business Administration (Boston University) • Master in Finance • Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems at Penn State University • Teaches courses in Database Management Systems and Information System Strategy • Former CIO at a major Venezuelan bank • Consultant on information systems to several major Venezuelan and US institutions like PDVSA, Inelectra, Sunbeam Corp, USFeed Grain Council, US Meats, and American Soybean Association. • His current research is on how culture and technology affects the way we communicate and is aimed towards a better understanding of how Technology Mediated Communications (TMC) differ from face-to-face communications.

Developing a Computerized Accounting Information System-Summary • We Should not design the DB structure as mirror images of the accounting books • We cannot change the way that accountants view accounting • Except for accounting firms, Accounting Information Systems (AIS) are not part of the core of the business of most companies • If your AIS is not a part of your core business treat it as a service/necessity and not as an asset
