What causes breast cancer? Some of the cells in the chest region begin growing abnormally. These cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells do and spread through the breast, forming a cancerous tumor.
The key to early detection is screening. If breast cancer is found and treated early, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent.
