Google Apps for Students and Alumni • PROS • Increased email space (1GB 7GB) • Improved collaboration tools (Docs) • New services (groups, video, maps, etc.) • Higher Ed (HE) intellectual property protection • No advertising scanning/ad bar on top of Rice/Gmail • Lifetime email address @rice.edu • CONS Risks associated with cloud based service disruptions, identity theft, control of confidential and sensitive data.

Challenges with forwarding through personal Gmail accounts • Personal Google Account Terms: “By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.” • Rice Terms: “this Agreement does not grant either party any rights, implied or otherwise, to the other’s content or any of the other’s intellectual property.” For more information see - tinyurl.com/RiceGoogleApps/

  4. Oracle Calendar Replacement • Recommendation of ITAC to proceed • Contract negotiations same as Google for Students – pending • Proceeding with test deployments scheduled for the summer

  5. Data Center Outage Reminder • There will be a total data center outage 5:00-8:00 AM on Saturday, May 21st • Email, Main campus web site and DNS services will remain online, but all other services will be unavailable
