  8. Practice Time!

  9. Determine if each problem was simplified correctly. If it wasn’t, be prepared to explain why the answer is incorrect.

  10. Fraction Operations • Complete the Basic Fraction Operations Quiz • Grade the Quiz • Based on your score results, select a Fraction Note sheet (with practice problems on the back) for each operation you struggled with and COMPLETE for HOMEWORK!! • Don’t forget to bring the signed expectation sheet to class by TUESDAY!

  11. Unit 1: Day 2 • Order of Operations with Fractions • Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide Fractions that contain variables • Simplify fraction expressions that contain variables • Announcements: • Extra Help next week • Wednesday (9/7) from 2 – 3 pm • Expectations Due on Tuesday • Algebra Basic Skills Inventory Test on Thursday!!

  12. Any questions on the fraction HW? • Anyone have signed information sheets to pass in?

  13. Multiplying Fraction Expressions Reduce or simplify first (if possible)

  14. Dividing Fraction Expressions Flip 2nd fraction then reduce or simplify first (if possible) before multiplying

  15. Adding & Subtracting Fraction Expressions In order to get a common denominator, find the LCM (least common multiple) of the denominators. Many times you’ll have to multiply the denominators together.

  16. Order of operations with fractions

  17. Closing Assignments… • Complete the worksheet: “Fraction Expressions” • Complete the “Solving Equations Pre-Assessment” and pass into the bin before you leave class. • Pick up the “Review for Basic Skills Inventory” and start working on it if there is time remaining. (Remember the test is on Thurs) • Don’t forget to bring the signed info sheet to class on Tuesday!

  25. Unit 1: Day 6 • Relations vs. Functions • What is a function • How to determine if a relation is a function • Announcements: • Extra Help next week: • Thursday (9/15) 2 – 3 pm • Unit Test on THURSDAY! • Any Questions about using a graphing calculator?

  26. Problem of the day • My cousin, Alex, who lives in Canada called me this weekend and told me that his temperature was 35 degrees Celsius. Should I be concerned that his body temperature might be too high or too low? (Hint: ) • A bag of mixed dried beans for soup contains 1/8 pinto beans, 3/8 white beans, ¼ kidney beans, and 8 ounces of navy beans. Find the weight of the entire bag & the weight of the pinto beans. • To determine the retail price, r, of all merchandise, a store owner multiplies the wholesale price, w, by 1.5. Write an equation relating r and w.
