There are many forms of electric charge. There are two types of charge positive and negative. Electric Charge
Protons and Electrons • Protons have a positive electric charge while electrons have a negative charge. • The amount of positive charge on a proton equals the amount of negative charges in an electron.
Charges exert forces • A negative charge and a positive charge will attract each other. A positive and a Positive will repel each other. Negative and a negative will also repel each other.
Electric Fields • An electric field surrounds each electric charge. • Any electric charge that is placed inside the electric field will either be attracted or repelled.
Conductors and insulators • Conductors are a material in which electrons flow easily such as metals. • Insulators are the exact opposite insulators are materials in which the electrons movement is slowed down.
Charging objects. • You can charge objects by charging by contact or charging by induction. • Charging by contact is when an object touches or rubs against another. • Charging by induction is the rearrangement of electrons on a neutral object caused by a nearby charged object.
Lightning • Lightning is a static discharge between two objects. • A thunder cloud is a generator of static electricity
Thunder • Thunder is produced by lightning heating up are particles until the explode this makes a loud booming sound.
How to find electric charge • There are many instruments that tell you when an electric charge is present. An electroscope can detect an electric charge.
