Setting Children of Men
The contrasts of different setting in this film: • Jasper’s house, secluded and hidden surrounded by trees. Its filled with news clippings of the past about the decreasing fertility rate. • Nigel’s house: Nigel is part of the rich community so is able to live in peace and not worry about the was disasters are going on in the city because they do not effect him • City: dark, not pleasant, bombing
Children of Men is a dystopian movie, this is shown by the bad futuristic setting. It warns us about the decreasing fertility rates in todays society. This is shown through the setting. In the city, the atmosphere is smoky and dark, perhaps dirty, there is rubbish piled up everywhere. There is advertising on all the walls and the streets are dark and crowded this is an undesirable setting.
This is an undesirable setting. Especially when in contrast to Nigel’s house which is the total opposite, it is clean and white giving a peaceful feeling about it. He lives in a very prestigious setting, this is very heavily guarded showing the separation between Nigel’s life and the rest of the world. Everything in Nigel’s property is extremely modern as compared to the public areas which seem to have diminished in technology and flash stuff.
