  1. Why should we reduce, reuse and recycle?

  2. Words we need to know • Landfill- a place where garbage is dumped from garbage trucks • Biodegrade- when something is eaten away by the sun, rain, wind and microorganisms (very tiny animals and plants) • Recycle- reusing materials instead of throwing them away

  3. Paper People in the United States cut down 850 million trees every year to make paper products!

  4. Plastic Plastic is not biodegradable, it lasts forever!

  5. Glass It takes about 3,000 years for a glass bottle or jar to biodegrade at a landfill

  6. Aluminum It takes 500 years for one aluminum can to biodegrade at the landfill

  7. Why is it important to recycle? • If we don’t recycle, more and more garbage will go to landfills until they all get filled up. • It takes less energy to process recycled materials than to process new materials, which reduces pollution • Recycling paper saves trees and forests, which make oxygen and helps keep the air clean
