Use a BIG calendar • Put a BIG calendar in a public place • If you have an electronic version in a “public place” that is useful. • People who use their phones as a calendar can add events themselves. • Having a public hard-copy gives people a visual that helps keep them on track.
Mark regular holidays, etc. • Helps to keep them in mind • School may be closed • You may be able to play off of one of the holidays for an event.
Mark community events • You may wish to be involved in other major community events. • You may wish to avoid having your events on or near other major community events. • Examples: THS Charity Drive, Rose Festival, County Fair
Note the Academic Calendar • Avoid major ‘crazy’ weeks for events • Things like mid-terms and finals can seriously hinder participation. • Know when your events might have the most impact (I.e. Registration week)
Work backwards • Set the dates for major events like induction • Set deadlines for accomplishing tasks to make the event a success. • Examples: Hallmark awards due date (early Feb) • Start research (now) • Review research (two weeks from now) • Plan project (early September) • Do project (early October) • Start writing entry (mid-November)
