Haiti Earthquake January 12, 2010 • Centered near the capital Port-au-Prince • United Nations estimates 300,000 left homeless • Prime Minister says a final toll of 100,000 dead would "seem to be the minimum"
Compassion Serviceswww.compassionservices.com • A UPC-affiliated relief agency • Compassion Services International was organized as a Christian relief and development service provider dedicated to providing emergency relief during, or in the aftermath, of disasters. By reaching forth to the hungry, destitute, sick, and the unfortunate, we are able to show the world something of God's love. This program of relief was instituted to help in a practical way to compliment that love.
Message (redacted) from Rev. Scotty Sladon, Director, Compassion Services • Thursday, a team assembled in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and purchased some $3,000 worth of basic food items and water which were loaded into a 30 passenger bus for land transport to Haiti. There is a man in the church there who is a government official, and he took care of the border crossing for them. • Friday morning they departed Santo Domingo for Haiti, arriving in Port-au-Prince Friday night. • As always, let's keep them in our prayers. The news is reporting that because of the desperate situation there are gangs attacking the convoys for food. • Friday morning, Compassion Services sent several Med-Packs and boxes of medical supplies to Med Express in Alexandria, LA for shipment to Haiti next week. • In the coming weeks Compassion Services will send medical teams and probably construction teams to Haiti. If you are interested in participating in these trips, please monitor our website www.compassionservices.org for upcoming information. • Compassion Services also has a page on Facebook.
Four ways we can help • 1. Pray for the people of Haiti, the Compassion Services team and everyone involved in the relief effort. • 2. Spread the word to everyone you know to get involved on some level. • 3. Donate via www.compassionservices.org or send a check to CSI/Haiti 8855 Dunn Road, Hazelwood, MO 63042 • 4. Contribute supplies and assistance
