BackgroundCAMS • CAMS is a not-for-profit member-based organisation focused on the development, regulation and administration of motor sport across Australia. • CAMS is the Commonwealth Government recognised National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for motor sport in Australia. • CAMS National Officiating Program was established to facilitate the training and accreditation of over 8,000 volunteer officials.

BackgroundCAMS • In 2011 CAMS sanctioned over 1,950 different events from all disciplines of motor sport across Australia (off-road, rally, speed & race) from Club to State, National & International level including the Formula 1™ Australian Grand Prix, Rally Australia, V8 Supercars Championship etc. • CAMS have over 52,000 members, with over 20,000 licensed motor sport competitors and over 430 affiliated Clubs • CAMS is one of Australia’s largest volunteer-based organisations with over 8,000 accredited volunteer officials

BackgroundCAMS • CAMS has extensive experience in motor sport officials training and event organisation, having been the Organiser of the FORMULA 1™ Australian Grand Prix since 1985. • As an FIA Institute Regional Training Provider (RTP), CAMS has successfully trained over four thousand (4000) international officials. • CAMS is a world leader in the development and delivery of high quality officials training programs.

Our RTP PhilosophyCAMS • A true collaboration • Establish long lasting relationships with ASN’s • Equip ASN’s with the necessary skills & experience to be entirely self sufficient • Deliver tailored training solutions to meet the differing needs of each ASN • Utilise multiple training delivery methods • No project is too big or too small

  10. A case studyKorea • In 2010 CAMS was engaged to provide training and event support for the Formula 1™ Korean Grand Prix, • Stakeholders; • Korea automobile racing association (KARA) – ASN, • Korea auto valley operation (KAVO) – promoter & organiser, • Jeollanam-do Provincial Government.

A case studyKorea • The Challenge; • OBJECTIVE: To equip Korean marshals to run the event without any outside assistance by 2013 • TRAINING: 950 marshals required to run the event, most of whom had very little or no motor sport experience • FACILITIES: No permanent motor sport facility in which to deliver training prior to the event • THE EVENT: Conducted on a new circuit with new equipment and new officials • LANGUAGE: 90% OF Korean Officials did not speak English

A case studyKorea • What services did we provide? • A project manager based in Korea for 4 months • Project management team; • Representation on the event Organising Committee • Pre-event technical support (technical advice – circuit) • Sporting organisation (regulations, minute x minute, FIA compliance) • Provision of all Senior Officials (Clerk of the Course, Secretary of the Meeting, Chief Medical Officer, Race Control staff, Post Chiefs etc) • 120 CAMS marshals

A case studyKorea • The training program • Senior Officials training (200 officials) • General Officials training (750 officials) • Instructor led training in all areas including; • Communications • Recovery • Medical • Flags • Track • Scrutineering • A train the trainer module to allow local trainers to deliver training moving forward

Other CAMS initiatives CAMS Ignition Program Ignition is a road safety initiative for young drivers aged 12-18 years with the goal to make every participant a safer and more responsible driver on our roads with the focus on education before they become Learner drivers. CAMS is lobbying the Australian Government to have this program a part of the national curriculum in schools throughout Australia. A number of other ASN’s throughout the world have adapted this program with CAMS assistance.

Other CAMS initiatives CAMS Rising Star The CAMS Rising Star Program was established in 2004 to ensure talented young Australian drivers have every opportunity to learn all aspects of motor racing and to give them the very best preparation for a successful National or International motorsport career and to compete at the pinnacle of their chosen motor sport discipline

Other CAMS initiatives Australian Institute of Motor Sport Safety (AIMSS) • AIMSS is the peak body for motor sport safety and related research in Australia. • AIMSS works in conjunction with CAMS in an advisory role to develop safety through research, education and industry liaison. • AIMSS works to disseminate safety breakthroughs and information from around the world to the Australian motor sport community. • So far AIMSS has conducted important research relating to; • Dehydration for drivers and officials • Research in to the life of FIA approved seat belts

Other CAMS initiatives CAMS Ignition Program WAMS – is a community awareness organisation designed to increase participation of women across all facets of motor sport in Australia IDiS- CAMS, in partnership with the Australian Federal Government, is embarking on a campaign of influencing attitudes by educating motor sport participants and the general community about the dangers of illicit drugs to their health, their potential for damage to life time social responsibilities, and in particular to the health and safety implications of undertaking motor sport while affected by drugs
