  3. Rapid initial deployment – Each country commits: • Personnel • Equipment • Funding

  4. Member States participate at 4 levels, with: • List of capabilities and resources • Planning data sheet, incl. contingent-owned equipment • General UNSAS memorandum ofunderstanding (MOU) • “Rapid deployment level” MOU withloading list

  5. Military contingents • Selected for neededcapabilities • No more than authorizedstrength • Subject to UN code of conduct

  6. Selection criteria for UNMOs: • Be serving in defence forces, at required rank • Be between 25 and 55 years of age • Have at least 5 years of commissioned service • Meet criteria in Medical Support Manual

  7. The UNMO must have experience/knowledge in: • Using weaponry, equipment, vehicles • Map reading, navigation, GPS • Communications, radio operation • First aid, stress management • Negotiation and conflict resolution • Field or troop unit operations • Combat-troop training • Dismounted and vehicle patrolling

  8. The police candidate must be: • Serving officer of appropriate rank, or retired within past 5 years • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience • Between 25 and 62 years of age • Competent in mission language (English or French) • Physically and mentally fit • Mature in attitude

  9. The UN police officer should be: • Resilient under stress • Adaptable to field conditions (food, accommodation, medical resources) • Honest, impartial, self-disciplined • Willing to take initiative, lead others

  10. The UN police officer should: • Be a competent adviser, mentor, trainer • Have good leadership and management skills • Feel comfortable in host-country environments • Be capable of understanding positions of parties in conflict • Be competent in impartially investigating and reporting incidents

  17. Following disciplinary incident: • Preliminary investigation by OIOS • Otherwise by military or civilian police • Disciplinary action based on report
