  3. Reasons for Celebrating • In the Christian religion, Easter is about remembering when Jesus was crucified and his resurrection three days later • Easter is a celebration of the Spring Equinox

  4. Candy Facts • 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are made for Easter each year • Americans buy more than 700 million Peeps for Easter each year • Americans eat about 16 billion jelly beans at Easter

  5. Eggs and Baskets • The first Easter baskets were made to look like nests • Decorating Easter eggs has been a tradition for centuries • Easter eggs are either given to others or put in baskets for decoration • Easter eggs are commonly colored with bright colors

  6. The Easter Bunny! • The Easter bunny symbolizes rebirth in the spring • The Easter bunny comes the night before Easter to fill Easter baskets with candy • Peter Cottontail is a song commonly sung at Easter time

  7. Easter Egg Hunts • In the US, Easter is celebrated with a large Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn • Easter egg hunts are usually in a large area with plastic eggs hidden all over and each egg contains a prize • Find an Easter egg hunt near you!
